1. Sterlise a 1.5 litre jar or wide necked bottle with boiling water.
2. Place the all the spices, juice and zest into the jar/bottle (chopping to size if needed to fit in the jar)
Add the sugar.
3. Pour in the vodka and close the lid securely. Give the jar/bottle a good shake.
4. Leave in a cool place for 6 weeks (a wine cooler ideal but cupboard / cellar ok)shaking every few days to ensure that the sugar all dissolves and the flavours mix well.
5. After 6 weeks, open the jar and strain through a sieve, before pouing into a clean sterile bottle.
Serve & Enjoy! Goes well with ginger ale or soda water.
The spice flavour is quite subtle - but you could try adding a vanilla pod and a tiny bit more sugar/maple syrup for the kids version? The ginger is perhaps the stongest flavour so you could reduce the amount or just leave it out. Hope you enjoy it!
The entire crew will be over at my house for Christmas Dinner and I am so looking forward to it. I think I will serve this Spiced Satsuma Vodka for the grownups, and also to the kids - but minus the vodka of course! Kitchen Kitty - do you think the kids will go for it or will it be too spicy for them?
