Description

This hearty Herbed Beef & Ale Pie is the perfect comfort food that brings together tender beef, rich ale, and a medley of herbs tucked beneath a flaky golden crust. It's a British classic that warms the soul and makes for a delightful family meal, especially on chilly evenings.

Method

  1. 1

    Preheat your oven to 180Β°C.

  2. 2

In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat; add 500g of cubed beef and brown all sides for about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Add 1 chopped onion, 2 chopped carrots, and 2 minced garlic cloves; sautΓ© until softened, around 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Pour in 300ml of stout beer and let it simmer for 10 minutes to reduce slightly.

  5. 5

Add 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, and salt and pepper to taste; stir until everything is combined.

  6. 6

Cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat for about 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.

  7. 7

Once the beef is done, stir in 2 tablespoons of flour to thicken the mixture; cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  8. 8

Roll out 1 sheet of puff pastry on a floured surface and place it over an ovenproof dish filled with the beef mixture; press the edges to seal.

  9. 9

Cut a few small slits in the pastry for steam to escape, then brush the top with 1 beaten egg.

  10. 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
