Description
Meatballs - normally made of a mix of pork and beef mince but just beef mince is fine
Method
-
1
cover the breadcrumbs with enough milk and let it swell for at least 10 mins (or the mixture might taste of bread). Any milk not absorbed by the crumbs drain away.
Mix the mince in a bowl with the salt, pepper, egg, chopped onion and "milk/breadcrumb" mixture. Don''t overwork the mixture which could make it dry.
Form the mixture into small balls and fry in oil or margarine in a hot frying pan. Wait until slightly fried before turning them or they will fall apart. Turn down the heat and fry gently until they are cooked all over making sure they are cooked through.
We often make a gravy in the frying pan using water, flour, stock cube and a bit of soya sauce to taste and colour the gravy but of course Bisto is fine to use as well.
In Sweden the custom is to eat the meatballs with boiled potatoes and lingonberry sauce, which is similar to cranberry sauce. But meatballs, gravy and pasta is also very nice.
Enjoy!
