Baron de Ley Club Privado Reserva Rioja

The Baron de Ley winery was founded by a prestigious group of Rioja professionals in 1985. They were quite unique in their approach as they modelled the winery on a Medoc chateaux, which was a pioneering move at that time for producers in the Denominacion de Origen Calificada Rioja. This wine is aged in new oak casks for 20 months prior to resting in the bottle for 2 years before release. It has definite claret qualities; the nose is layered with ripe cherry, toasty oak and a touch of cigar box. Lively, ripe, red fruit with dried tobacco and nutty vanilla overtones, round tannins with an expressive woody finish. Rioja wine can be excellent value for money and has terrific cellaring potential. Buy this wine if you like: Well rounded reds, with soft fruit and toasty character, easy drinking for upfront pleasure.

Description

My Best friend Charlie's recipe. Why complicate making Yorkshire puds - this works every time and is soooooo easy. Just play with the amounts depending on how many people you have.

Method

  1. 1

Get three identical glasses(preferably pint glasses)and line them up on your counter.

Put three mediums eggs in the first. Put flour in the second so that it comes up exactly level with the eggs in the first glass. Put milk in the third so that it is level with the eggs and flour in the others.

Throw the contents of each glass into a blender.

This should make 8 Yorkshire puds (maybe with a bit leftover). Make sure your pudding trays are in the oven with a little bit of oil in each section and allow the oil to get very hot.

    Cook for about 15 mins.

    Simple

Chef's Tips

The most important bit is to make sure the oil is seriously hot. Pour in the mix to each section and then get them back in the oven at 190/200.

DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR! They will be ready in 15 minutes or whenever you see them completely risen and nice and coloured.

Don't want to be picky Suzanne but Scotch is a whisky. Scottish is the nationality.

Thank you for the conversion. I am going to do this on the weekend , so keep my fingers crossed. Love Yorkshire Pudding, have so many recipes but none of them seem to come out the right way. Even though I was born in England and my mother still has her accent I cannot make this. I guess I should have learned at a younger age from my grandparents both English and Scotch.

Hi Suzanne. Presuming your oven is Farenheit, which I understand is the US standard, 190 - 200 C is 375 - 390 F and I have always found that hotter is better with Yorkshire puddings but Ed may wish to comment as it is his recipe. I agree that the use of three glasses is a great tip.

I'm from the US and would like to know if you can you provide me with the adjustments for the oven temperature . not sure how to adjust from 190-200 to our conventional ovens. love the use of the 3 glasses. seems so easy and will be trying soon.
